What is a coat extender?

A coat extender is a panel that attaches to the zipper of your existing coat, adding room at the front for your growing belly or for a baby worn in a carrier, wrap, or sling. How it works - two pieces

It comes as two pieces that work together, and the plan is as simple as it sounds: attach the Adapter to your coat's zipper, zip on the Extender panel, and wear the coats and jackets you already own. The small Adapter secures onto your coat's zipper. The large Extender panel with a removable polar fleece layer then zips onto the Adapter, expanding the front of your coat around you and your belly or baby. In early pregnancy or postpartum, the Adapter alone adds a few extra inches; as you grow, the full panel gives you all the room you need.

Why an extender instead of a maternity coat?

A good winter coat is one of the most expensive pieces in your wardrobe - hundreds of dollars, often far more - and you probably own more than one. Even a good 3-in-1 maternity coat (most convert for babywearing with a flip-around panel) still adds one more coat to your closet, and it's not the ones you already chose and love. Will it fit my coats and jackets?

The extender works with most zips and most brands of coats and jackets — winter coats, parkas, softshells, and rain jackets — and works best on zips 26" or longer. For shorter coats, simply fold the top down; on longer jackets, reposition the panel for the coverage you need.

One thing to check, and we say it upfront: Metaluxe-type zippers, found on Rudsak, Mackage, and some Columbia coats and jackets. Please don't use the extender with these, as damage may occur.
